The Royal Wedding has come and gone. The euphoria of the countdown, the splendour of those two hours and the days after. We are all intrigued by the guests, the simplicity of the bride’s gown and the royal family as a whole; the fact that the Duchess of Cambridge would sacrifice wearing a new dress to ensure that the Duchess of Sussex alone shines on her day; I can go on and on.
Saturday, the 19th of May 2018 was an interesting day. The fact that over 1.8 billion humans were glued to their screens to watch the 2-hour program. The highlights for me were the message from Bishop Curry and the classical rendition of “Stand by me” by The Kingdom Choir.
The message of Love is an ever-green one. “Imagine if every human loves their neighbours as themselves; there will be no more wars or poverty. No child will ever be left behind or go hungry; the light of Love will pervade even the hardest hearts, crime will reduce and everyone will be just okay.
What is Love? Some say it is an emotion while others call it a feeling but Love is much more than that. Love is a mystery and people who possess it know exactly what they have. There is absolutely no way a person will possess Love and it will not show. Love is light; it possesses people and illuminates their lives. Love gives and forgives, perseveres, endures, thinks no evil and it’s never puffed up.
There are times when you consider the huge disparity in wealth distribution in this world, the gap between the rich and the poor and the fact that certain people will rather have more riches than to create opportunities that will allow others to climb the ladder of success, you can begin to imagine whether there is still Love in this world. The situation is not limited to the rich, poor people also block each other’s opportunities. Love is not greedy and it’s also incorruptible.
Like Bishop Curry said at the Royal Wedding, if Love can be harnessed like fire was harnessed many years ago, the world will experience another revolutionary moment. There will be no religious crisis as no human will destroy a fellow human under the guise of religion. Wars will be a thing of the past; who needs nuclear weapons. Guns will be irrelevant and the world will collaborate to solve critical human challenges like fighting disease and global warming.
This whole concept sounds like wishful thoughts; something for the movies (lol). In actual fact, it may just be possible; the journey will be slow, painful and will require a lot of sacrifice. It starts small and transmits from one individual to another over a long period of time. Real Love is contagious and illuminating. If an individual possesses Love, he or she will gradually influence the few people around them and over time the world will be a changed place. I remember a quote:
“Everyone complains that the world feels like a dark place but if you light your little candle and I light mine, in no time the world will be as bright as the sun”. Don’t kid yourself, if you have Love, you will know. Love is that phenomenon that has no grey area; it’s either you have it and it shows or you don’t have it.
Let’s make some categorical statements here: there is absolutely no way a person will profess to have Love and still actively seek for the destruction of other people, even if you fundamentally disagree with them. If you have Love, you will care for the dying and downtrodden. Love has a partner called Mercy; if you have Love, you will be merciful. Love does not only show up in words, it shows up in what we do and how we live our lives. Everyone can seek to have it. God is Love!
Enough said about Love.
The rendition of “Stand by me” was awesome. If you missed it, please search for it on YouTube; you will thank me later. I have probably listened to it over 25 times already. That’s just in one week.
